Men’s House Shoes

I was scared of my mother’s house shoes my entire childhood. My mom cleaned floors and even worked in the yard in her house shoes — she also used them to whip us when we acted up. Those floor-hardened house slippers stung on the backs of our legs like a dozen tiny bee stings. Still brings a chill to my spine to think about it.

I would have been even more frightened if my dad wore house shoes. Men’s house shoes are not quite as popular or common as women’s, but there’s just as much variety and selection in men’s house shoes as women’s.

When shopping for men’s house shoes, you need to decide how much use the shoe will get, how long you want it to last, and how “fancy” of a house shoe you’re looking for. The spectrum runs from the cheap house slipper up to leather-crafted fine house slippers for the fashion-conscious man.

Take a look at the men’s house shoes on offer at Amazon.com — variety is the name of the game. You can dress your feet up to represent your favorite sports team (as with these Pittsburgh Steeler house shoes ) or go for comfort and style with these  corduroy slippers.

Cheap men house shoe slippers are plentiful, for the most part. You can pay less than $10 for a decent pair of house shoes and find yourself wearing them for years. Then again, some people’s idea of “house shoes” is way different from my own. If you are a man of means, or just like to dress yourself in the finer things, “house shoes” may refer to any pair of slip-on shoes for puttering around the house.

In that case, here’s a pair from NAOT with orthopedic-friendly removable foot beds, leather construction, and plenty of style. You’ll notice that these are a far cry from the house shoes found above — if you’re not into the soft “house slipper” style house shoes, prepare to pay more. The NAOT pair above costs anywhere from $130 to $150 depending on the retailer. The Amazon version above is currently the best price.

Another option in men’s house shoes is the moccasin — not just for creeping around in the woods killing the British, moccasins are comfortable. They’re usually made of leather, don’t require lacing, and have some kind of soft cozy padding for your feet. This moccasin from Byron is available at Amazon for right at $100, and is a more cost-effective men’s house shoe than the NAOT shoe above, without sacrificing comfort or quality.

House shoes don’t have to be hideous — you can buy a nice pair of house shoes that will last you several years. On the other hand, if you just need something soft to cover your feet, you can pick up a cheap pair of men’s house shoes and get change back from a ten dollar bill. Depending on your house shoe needs and what “style” you prefer, there’s a simple lace less house shoe that will work perfectly for you.
