Plastic Plant Pots

Used by commercial planters and home gardeners alike, plastic plant pots have the durability of plastic without the easy breaking nature of ceramic pots. Plastic plant pots are perfect for planting anything — there’s no need to invest in fancy plant pots or expensive materials, as plastic works just as well — and your garden provider probably plants most of their flowers and vegetables in plastic.

Plastic plant pots come in all sizes, from the tiniest 3.5 inch seed planter to multiple gallon “drum style” plastic plant pots, you can find a plastic pot for any planting need.

Why use plastic plant pots? Not every plant goes straight into the ground, and some aren’t meant for planting in the ground at all. Staring an herb garden in a plastic plant pot is smart — you can easily move the herb garden to a new spot for different light needs, and it is easy to clean and replant when it is time to grow new herbs. Plastic plant pots are good for hanging plants — they don’t weigh much and won’t put as much of a burden on your hanger as heavier plant pots.

Other reason to use cheap plastic plant pots — transplanting, growing from a clipping, moving a garden from one home to another, or starting a small plant in soil are all good reasons to go with a plastic pot. If you’re growing a flower or veggie that starts out tiny with very little needs in the way of room, start it in a tiny plastic pot and eventually transplant it into its new home. Plastic is light and cheap, meaning you can stock up on a big supply to satisfy all your garden requirements.

You can pick from a huge variety of plastic plant pots on Amazon.com. The cheapest plastic plant pots, like this four inch variety meant for starting orchids are small and simple. Naturally, the smaller the pot, the cheaper it will be. Your other option on Amazon is to buy packs of plastic plant pots in bulk and save money that way. Here is a 96-pack of white plastic plant pots for under $30.

The only way to get fancy with plastic plant pots is to buy them with plants pre-planted in them. Doing this, you can spend hundreds of dollars, such as on this plastic plant pot that comes with a beautiful ball-shaped topiary or this model with a spiral shaped topiary. These aren’t really “plastic plant pots” by definition, but show the variety of items you can grow and buy in plastic pots.

Ceramic plant pots have heft, they sometimes look nicer, and some gardeners say they let the root system “breathe” more or some such nonsense, but my local plant supplier and lawn maintenance store uses plastic plant pots, and it is more than likely that yours does too. If your commercial growers trusts plastic plant pots, shouldn’t you too? You can save a lot of money and elbow grease using plastic plant pots.
